Some people mistake my work for satire. I don’t object because satire is a powerful force, so if the work is seen that way it serves one function. But I don’t agree. The pictures are taken in the spirit of finding myself in the other, or finding the other in myself. They are taken in the spirit of empathy. Emotional, physical, sensual empathy. This work is political, but not polemical. There is potential for the formation of an underlying theme in how the system suppresses and distorts both the rich and the poor, but it is not Marx who chooses the characters in this book; it is lust, attraction, and destiny.

ed è la cosa che piu si sente davanti alle sue foto...come se la sua presenza lì fosse del tutto naturale, necessaria.

ho pubblicato questo post proprio pensando alle tue parole sull'affetto che vedi nel suo modo di ritrarre la gente. ed è vero, le cose che vengono fuori prima di tutto sono la sua intima partecipazione al e la sua vasta comprensione del mondo che fotografa.
ora ho aggiunto un po' di cose tratte dalla prefazione e dalla postfazione a social graces. il libro è meraviglioso, (devo ringraziarti per quella visita imprevista alla libreria) e le parole di fink sono sensuali ed esatte, e non danno scampo.
